Job Description Summary

The Counseling Center at Santa Fe College offers short-term, targeted mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals to community resources. The Center also conducts workshops, training sessions, presentations, and outreach activities for both students and staff.

The Counseling Specialist Intern provides counseling to college students dealing with personal, academic, and career-related issues under the guidance of an experienced Counseling Specialist. Interns may also contribute to the Trauma Response Team and engage in consultations with faculty and staff alongside a Counseling Specialist.

 

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Delivers face-to-face and tele-mental health counseling to students dealing with personal, career, and academic concerns.

  • Provides crisis intervention services as they arise during the workday.

  • Facilitates psycho-educational training for students, faculty, and staff.

  • Engages in outreach activities across the College community.

  • May serve as a consultant to College faculty, staff, and students alongside a Counseling Specialist.

  • May collaborate with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs alongside a Counseling Specialist.

  • Maintains timely and professional written communication in record keeping, emails, and reports.

  • Provides referrals to appropriate campus and community resources for students in need.

  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.

  • Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Reports to: Director, Counseling and Wellness

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A Master’s degree in Counseling or a relevant field with an active State of Florida license as a Registered Intern.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.

  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
